These sections describe the series that I’m doing simultaneously. I like to paint in series because it keeps me seeing in a fresh way. The cityscapes have a textural quality that contrast nicely with the landscapes. I’m amazed when I hear students say they can not find a subject to paint because I see paintings everywhere! The problem becomes what NOT to paint.
This year marks my 25th year of being a full-time artist. That’s amazing to me. It has been a life-long desire to express myself through art. I feel pretty lucky that I can do it. It isn’t an easy way to make a living but everyday I feel the same wonderful urge to create. Edgar Degas once said, “Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” I like that because it reminds me how many people have told me they saw “a Donoughe” somewhere. They were referring to a scene, not a finished painting. It is a rich life and one I am honored to share through my work.
